How to resize an image online
- Add your photo. Drag and drop an image into the box above, or click it to pick a file. JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF all work.
- Set your dimensions. Type an exact width and height in pixels, or tap a preset. Keep “Lock aspect ratio” on to avoid stretching — turn it off when a platform needs a specific shape.
- Pick a format and quality. JPEG is the safe default for photos, WebP gives smaller files at the same quality, and PNG is best when you need lossless output or transparency.

Does my photo get uploaded to a server?
No. Your image never leaves your device. The resizing is done locally by your browser using the HTML5 canvas, which is faster and completely private.
What formats can I export?
You can download your resized image as JPEG, WebP or PNG. JPEG and WebP include a quality slider so you can balance file size against sharpness — 80-90% is a good default for social media.
Will resizing reduce my image quality?
Downscaling (making an image smaller) keeps images sharp. Upscaling (making an image larger than the original) can look soft because the browser has to invent pixels, so start from the largest original you have.
Can I resize a photo for a passport application?

What's the difference between resizing and cropping?
Resizing scales the whole image up or down without changing what's in the frame. Cropping cuts part of the image away to change its shape. This tool resizes — if you also need to change the aspect ratio without stretching, turn off "Lock aspect ratio", position the important part of your photo centrally, and pick the exact target dimensions.
Why does my photo look stretched after I pick a preset?
Presets set an exact width and height for a platform, which can differ from your original photo's shape. When "Lock aspect ratio" is off (which presets do automatically), the image is stretched to fit rather than cropped. The live preview shows this before you download, so you can turn the lock back on or choose a closer preset if it looks distorted.
What size should my Instagram profile picture be?
Instagram displays profile pictures at 320×320 pixels in a circle, so use a square image with your subject centred — anything near the edges gets cropped off by the circular mask.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
YouTube recommends 1280×720 pixels (16:9) for video thumbnails, which is included as a preset. Keep key text and faces away from the edges, since thumbnails are shown small in search and suggested-video lists.
Can I use this on my phone?
