JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF — processed entirely in your browser
100% private — your photo never leaves your device. All resizing happens in your browser.
How to resize an image online
- Add your photo. Drag and drop an image into the box above, or click it to pick a file. JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF all work.
- Set your dimensions. Type an exact width and height in pixels, or tap a preset. Keep “Lock aspect ratio” on to avoid stretching — turn it off when a platform needs a specific shape.
- Pick a format and quality. JPEG is the safe default for photos, WebP gives smaller files at the same quality, and PNG is best when you need lossless output or transparency.
- Download. Your resized image saves directly to your device — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Common image sizes in 2026
Every platform crops images differently, and uploading the wrong shape means faces get cut off or banners look blurry. These are the sizes our presets use:
| Use | Size (px) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram post | 1080 × 1080 | Square; 1080 × 1350 also works for portrait |
| Instagram story | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 full-screen vertical |
| LinkedIn profile photo | 400 × 400 | Displayed as a circle — keep your face centred |
| LinkedIn banner | 1584 × 396 | Wide 4:1 header behind your profile |
| Twitter/X header | 1500 × 500 | 3:1; avatar overlaps the bottom-left corner |
| UK / EU passport photo | 413 × 531 | 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI |
| US passport photo | 600 × 600 | 2 × 2 in at 300 DPI |
Why your photo never leaves your device
Most online resizers upload your image to their servers, process it there, and send it back. This tool works differently: your browser does the resizing itself using the HTML5 canvas, so the photo stays on your device from start to finish. That makes it faster (no upload wait), free to run, and genuinely private — there is no server copy to delete because one never existed. It also works offline once the page has loaded.
Resizing is easy — a great photo is harder
A perfectly sized LinkedIn photo still needs to look professional. If your best photo is a cropped holiday snap, consider CVPIC: upload 10–15 selfies, our AI trains a model of you, and generates studio-quality headshots and portraits in under two hours — already sized and ready for LinkedIn, dating apps and social profiles.
Frequently asked questions
Is this image resizer really free?
Yes. The tool is completely free with no watermarks, no sign-up and no usage limits. All processing happens in your browser, so it costs nothing to run and nothing to use.
Does my photo get uploaded to a server?
No. Your image never leaves your device. The resizing is done locally by your browser using the HTML5 canvas, which is faster and completely private.
What formats can I export?
You can download your resized image as JPEG, WebP or PNG. JPEG and WebP include a quality slider so you can balance file size against sharpness — 80-90% is a good default for social media.
Will resizing reduce my image quality?
Downscaling (making an image smaller) keeps images sharp. Upscaling (making an image larger than the original) can look soft because the browser has to invent pixels, so start from the largest original you have.
Can I resize a photo for a passport application?
Yes — the presets include UK/EU 35×45mm and US 2×2in at 300 DPI. For proper cropping with head-position guidance, use our dedicated passport photo tool.
